No data collected · On-device only

Your notes stay yours.
Always.

SnapNotes is a privacy-first OCR & note-taking extension. Everything — screenshots, OCR, search, storage — runs locally inside your browser. Nothing is ever uploaded, tracked, or sold.

Zero Uploads

Screenshots & OCR text never leave your device. No cloud servers involved.

Fully Offline OCR

The Tesseract.js engine is bundled inside the extension — works without internet.

No Account

No sign-up, no telemetry, no analytics, no tracking of any kind.

01 · Data Handling

What happens to your data

Short version: it stays on your machine. The table below is the full picture.

DataWhat happens
Screenshots / captured imagesProcessed locally in your browser for OCR. Never uploaded.
OCR text / notesStored only in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB) and as PNG files in your Downloads folder. Never transmitted.
Custom subjectsStored locally via chrome.storage. Never transmitted.
Usage analyticsNone. No analytics, no telemetry, no tracking scripts.
02 · Permissions

Why each permission exists

SnapNotes asks for the minimum permissions needed to do its job — and nothing else.

PermissionReason
activeTab + scriptingInject the drag-select overlay onto the page you're viewing when you press Snap.
tabs + captureVisibleTabCapture a screenshot of the current tab for OCR.
downloadsSave your screenshot/note PNGs to your Downloads folder.
storageStore your custom subjects and note index locally.
03 · Privacy Principles

Designed private by default

One exception, fully in your control: the optional Translate button sends your OCR text to Google Translate — but only when you click it. This is never automatic and never happens in the background.
